A New Chapter in MUN Excellence for CIS at SLMUN 2025
2025-09-09

The 18th Session of the Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN 2025) Conference was held at the BMICH on the 16th and 17th of August 2025.

True to their legacy as one of Asia’s largest student-run UN simulations, this year’s conference played host to 1200+ registrations from schools, universities and educational institutes from all over the island. The conference theme for SLMUN 2025 was “Igniting the Language of Change”, emphasizing inclusive discourse across Sri Lanka’s three national languages. Notably, a human rights committee was conducted in Sinhala and Tamil in addition to English – with CIS’s very own Ashveedha Jayasinge of the Batch of 2025 joint-chairing this committee.

The conference also hosted regional workshops across cities like Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Panadura, Kurunegala, and Bandarawella—preparing delegates in MUN procedures and boosting engagement nationwide. SLMUN 2025 continued their regional outreach by supporting new institutions and offering MUN procedure workshops and assistance in forming school MUN clubs.

The CIS delegation this year, consisted of an eclectic group of both rookie MUN-ers and seasoned veterans, taking on the role of delegates, administrative staff and IPC members. The delegates ranged from Year 9 students to Year 13 school leavers, with the incoming CIS MUN society’s executive committee leading the entire delegation through rigorous discussion, research and diplomacy-style training sessions. The combined determination, passion and the resolute mindset of the delegation as a whole was clear during these training sessions – eventually leading to a vast award list, encompassing both quantity and quality.
