The 30th Session of the Colombo Model United Nations (COMUN 2024) Conference was held at the Overseas School of Colombo and the Taj Samudra Hotel on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March 2024.
COMUN 2024 introduced several new initiatives this year such as the introduction of a mobile application and the Marvel Cinematic Universe Committee to streamline the recording and maintenance of delegate data as well as to merge the mystical world of the superheroes with the realistic concerns that arise as a result of their actions.
This year, CIS entered a wide range of delegates, administrative staff and IPC members for the conference. The entire delegation from novice delegates to seasoned MUN participants and IPC members, worked tirelessly throughout the months of January and February to hone their knowledge of foreign policy, current world issues and global solutions.
Senior members of the CIS MUN Society led all the training sessions and delegation practices in order to make sure that every single delegate knew the intricacies of MUN debate policy, worked on their own country’s stance and learned the art of rebuttal.
The expertise and experience of the many senior delegates and executive committee members within the CIS MUN Society were duly recognized by the COMUN 2024 organising committee.
- The President of the CIS MUN Society, Varshan Dayapathy, was appointed as the Under-Secretary General.
- The Former President of the CIS MUN Society, Chethye Karunasena, was appointed as the Head of Training.
- Our Secretary of Administration, Lee SooMin, was appointed as the Co-Chair of General Assembly 3.
- Our Treasurer, Saveesha Hettiarachchi, was appointed as the Vice President of the Global Economic Forum.
- Senior Member of the CIS MUN Society, Leenah Wahab, was appointed as the President of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Committee.
- Ramithu Sellahewa from the CIS Class of 2023 was appointed as the Vice President of the Head of State Cabinet Council.
As chair-persons, all six students presided over debate sessions and followed conference protocol with integrity, fairness and a true sense of leadership.
