Two teams from our Environmental Society participated in the Young Environmentalists’ Challenge 2020-2021, organized by Deakin University of Australia and The Royal Institute of Colombo.

The first round challenge was to select a threat to the local ecosystem, explore solutions and make a ten minute video to educate others about this.

One of our groups, ‘High Voltage’ focused their attention on the issue of polluted water in Sri Lanka, where toxic metals are increasingly being found in the water system.

The second group, ‘Emblems of the Earth’, chose to research the Hikkaduwa coral reef, visiting the reef to obtain primary data and footage which was used in the video.

We are proud to announce that both teams were selected to advance to the second round. We wish them both the best of luck at the next stage!
